The company, MIPS AB, was founded in 2001 by five specialists in the biomechanical field from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm, Sweden. Our company has extensive technological and medical expertise focused on preventing head injuries. We also conduct studies involving injury prediction and the simulation of head and neck injuries using advanced data methods. MIPS AB has extensive and profound knowledge concerning head and neck injuries, a result of 30 years' experience in the area.

From the research an initial application for producing safer helmets is now being brought to market - the MIPS helmet technology. This technology is globally patented and fully functional to be implemented into helmets across all helmet segments. Our initial segment focus is on Motorcycle, Equestrian, Snow/ski, Bicycle and American Football helmets.

We provide superior knowledge about how to develop safer and commercially successful helmets for all parts of the distribution chain in the helmet industry. We have expertise in neuronic science & engineering, technical solutions and consumer needs.

Our business model

The core of MIPS Protection System is a Component Kit consisting of a low friction layer and a combined fixation and release mechanism. MIPS AB produces and supplies our customers with the Component Kit and thus takes on a role as a component supplier in the process of producing the helmet.

We provide full implementation support with a thorough and sustainable testing process including both computer model testing and experimental tests in the MIPS test rig. We also issue certification on the MIPS technology in the helmet.
By purchasing the Component Kits from MIPS AB our customers are also provided the license to utilize our patent.

  For customers with no existing expertise in helmet development and production we provide full product management support from A to Z through the process from design to finished helmet. Our experienced product managers, close relationship with industrial designers and good relations with leading helmet producers can be made available on request.
